How to Find Affordable Family Health Insurance

Affordable family health insurance isn't always easy to find. Fact is there are few individual health insurance in the market right now that are cheap, let alone family health insurance. But that doesn't mean they don't exist. You simply need to know where to look, and you need to be prudent and thrifty, too. Then, unlike that U2 song, you might just find what you're looking for.

Affordable family health insurance in the United States

One sad fact is that most affordable family health insurance do not cover one or more medical circumstances, leading you to think whether the cheap price is even worth it at all. These are called policy exclusions. Next is the family health insurance company's credibility. Many companies that offer cheap and affordable family health insurance aren't even worth talking to at all, let alone signing a family health insurance deal with.

But if you're really bent on finding a solid family health insurance that's cheap and affordable for your family, considere government-sanctioned family health insurance groups. In the United States, for example, there are several government-sanction insurance groups that cater to a wide variety of insurance needs.

US government affordable family health insurance programs

Medicaid – Medicaid is a health program in the United States intended for families and individuals with low income and resources. It's been around for a long time, funded by the states and the federal government, and managed by the states. But take note being poor doesn't automatically quality you for Medicaid insurance. You need to talk to one of their agents about the specific requirements to qualify for the insurance. It is currently the largest source of funding for health- and medical-related services in the United States.

TRICARE – This one provides civilian health benefits for military retirees, military personnel and their dependents. It is currently managed by the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) under the watch of the Assistant Secretary of Defense.

Indian Health Service – Don't let the name fool you. The Indian Health Service (or IHS) is responsible for providing medical services and health insurance to recognized Tribes and Alaska Natives. As of writing, the Indian Health Service provides for 33 hospitals, 59 health centers and 50 health stations all over different US states—including Alaska, California, Nashville, Oklahoma, Portland, Tucson, etc.

State Children's Health Insurance Program
– SCHIP is a government-sanction family health insurance program designed to cater towards families with children in the United States. This affordable family health insurance program works alongside Medicaid; it provides for families with children with income that is modest but is too high for Medicaid.

Outside the government program

According to a licensed health insurance agent, there are some cheap and affordable family health insurance even outside the government-hosted programs. What you should do, the agent says, is find a small local broker within your area who has experience in dealing with insurance companies, and have him or her gather some family health insurance quotes for you and decide which is the best price.

Examples of health insurance companies to watch out for are Medical Mutual, American Community, and Anthem. Go over the quotes very carefully with your broker to find the family health insurance that best fit your budget.
